β-HCG Rapid Quantitative Test (Chemiluminescence Immunoassay) is used for in vitro quantitative detection of the β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) concentration in human serum, plasma that contains heparin /EDTA and other anticoagulants samples, mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis of reproductive hormones diseases.
Application
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein composed of 237 amino acids, with a molecular mass of 36.7 kDa. The molecule is comprised of approximately 14.5 kDa of α-hCG and 22.2 kDa of β-hCG. It is a heterodimeric hormone, consisting of an α (alpha) subunit that is identical to the α subunits of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), as well as a unique β (beta) subunit.
The α subunit of hCG is 92 amino acids long, while the β-subunit of hCG (β-hCG) contains 145 amino acids. The β-hCG is encoded by six highly homologous genes (CGB1, CGB2, CGB3, CGB5, CGB7, and CGB8) that are arranged in tandem and inverted pairs on chromosome 19q13.3. Interestingly, the CGB7 gene has a slightly different sequence compared to the other β-hCG genes.
The two subunits of hCG create a small hydrophobic core surrounded by a high surface area-to-volume ratio, which is approximately 2.8 times that of a sphere. The vast majority of the outer amino acids are hydrophilic.
The β-hCG subunit is largely similar to the β-subunit of LH (β-LH), with the exception of a Carboxy Terminus Peptide (β-CTP) containing four glycosylated serine residues. This β-CTP is responsible for the longer half-life of hCG compared to LH.
The unique structural features and glycosylation patterns of hCG contribute to its distinct biological functions, particularly in the context of pregnancy and early embryonic development.
