FSH Rapid Quantitative Test (Chemiluminescence Immunoassay) is used for in vitro quantitative detection of the Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentration in human serum and plasma that contains heparin /EDTA and other anticoagulants samples, mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis of reproductive hormones diseases.
Application
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a member of the glycoprotein hormone family, which includes luteinizing hormone (LH), thyroid-stimulating hormone, and chorionic gonadotropin. These heterodimeric hormones share a common α subunit, but differ in their hormone-specific β subunit. The biological activity of these hormones is conferred only by the heterodimeric structures.
FSH and LH are synthesized in the same cells of the pituitary, known as gonadotrophs. FSH receptors are localized to Sertoli cells in the testes and granulosa cells in the ovary, where they play crucial roles in regulating gametogenesis (sperm and egg production) and steroidogenesis (sex hormone production).
Compared to the extensive knowledge about the physiological roles of FSH and LH, only minimal data has been accumulated so far involving human mutations in the genes encoding the FSHβ or LHβ subunits, or the gonadotropin receptor genes. Further research is needed to fully understand the impact of genetic variations in this endocrine system on human reproductive function and development.
