BNP Rapid Quantitative Test (Chemiluminescence Immunoassay) is used for in vitro quantitative detection of the Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) concentration in human plasma that contains EDTA anticoagulants and venous whole blood samples, mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis of cardiac diseases.
Application
Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) belongs to a family of protein hormones called natriuretic peptides. These peptides act on blood vessels, causing them to dilate or widen. They also work on the kidneys, stimulating the excretion of more salt and water. Additionally, the natriuretic peptides reduce the production of various hormones that can narrow blood vessels, boost heart rate, or affect fluid retention, such as adrenaline, angiotensin, and aldosterone.
Measuring BNP levels is helpful in determining the outlook for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). In general, the higher the BNP level, the more severe the heart failure. BNP is also very useful in guiding the treatment of CHF. Effective therapy that reduces the backup of blood in the heart can lead to smaller heart chambers and recovery of the muscle cells, which in turn results in decreased BNP production.
